It’s time to build a health care system that meets the needs of our growing community.

At Waterloo Regional Health Network we will build a new hospital faster.

The merger of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital to form the Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN, pronounced wren) will allow us to plan as one organization and remove potential barriers and delays.

We expect merging will strengthen our case for investment with the Province of Ontario and remove potential governance barriers that could delay the project.

Our new hospital organization will continue to advance the joint plan by Grand River and St. Mary’s to build a new acute hospital in north Waterloo and renovate and repurpose the two existing sites WRHN @ Midtown (KW Site) and WRHN @ Chicopee (Freeport). We are committed to maintaining WRHN @ Queen’s Blvd. (St. Mary’s General Hospital) until all services are transitioned to the new acute hospital in Waterloo and to the Midtown Site.

The decision to come together will also offer a compelling case for existing donors and community members who want to support this once-in-a-generation initiative that transforms local and regional health care.
