Our vision is a Waterloo Region where everyone has access to the highest quality of care, technology and hospital infrastructure needed to be healthy—now and in the future.

Based on preliminary conversations with our staff, physicians, community and health system partners, including Cambridge Memorial Hospital, and the KW4 Ontario Health Team, we have submitted a joint vision to government which includes three main components:

  1. A new, state-of-the-art hospital site located at David Johnston Research + Technology Park (R&T Park) at the University of Waterloo.
  2. Renewing and repurposing the existing mid-town K-W Campus as an ambulatory and urgent care centre.
  3. Renewing and expanding the Freeport Campus in Kitchener for modernized and expanded rehabilitation capacity.

All sites would be governed by the new, single organization following the planned merger of Grand River Hospital and St. Mary’s General Hospital.

The proposal was supported by both hospital boards as well as the St. Joseph’s Health System board.

*The joint proposal submitted to government is subject to modifications following further engagements with staff, government, our partners and the community.
